ANKLE
TENDOACHILLES INJURY
Strongest tendon in body
It is common tendon for calf muscles (Soleus and Gastrocnemius) and attached to back of heal bone (Calcaneus bone).
Function: It is very important in walking and running
Causes:
- Over use
- Trauma
- Sudden contraction of calf muscle during sports
Clinical features:
- Pain, Swelling, Unable to walk
- Gap can be felt in severe injuries
- Popping sound
Diagnosis: X-RAY/USG/MRI
Treatment:
- RICE
- NSAIDS
- Immobilisation
- PRP Injections
- Arthroscopic Or Open Surgery
- Physiotherapy
ANKLE SPRAIN / LIGAMENT INJURIES:
Ankle joint mainly supported by medial and lateral collateral ligaments
Medial collateral ligament also known as deltoid ligament
Lateral collateral ligament also known as Talofibula ligament
Another ligament is Tibio fibular ligament (Syndesmosis)
Most commonly injured ligament is Talo – fibular ligament
Causes:
- Twisting
- Trauma
Clinical features: Pain, Swelling and Painful ROM
Diagnosis: X-RAY/MRI
Treatment:
- RICE
- NSAIDS
- Immobilisation with non weight bearing
- In very severe (complete rupture) cases surgery may require
- Physiotherapy
