GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS :

 USE OF A SLING ONLY AS NEEDED OR PRESCRIBED.
 NO PASSIVE FORCEFUL STRETCHING IN EXTERNAL ROTATION/EXTENSION
FOR 3 MONTHS FOLLOWING AN ANTERIOR REPAIR AND INTO INTERNAL
ROTATION FOR POSTERIOR REPAIR.
GOOD POSTURE IS CRITICAL THROUGHOUT THE REHABILITATION PROCESS TO
IMPROVE HEALING AND DECREASE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING POOR MECHANICS.
 ALL ACTIVE EXERCISES SHOULD BE CAREFULLY MONITORED TO MINIMIZE
SUBSTITUITON OR COMPENSATION

SHOULDER SHOULD BE IMMOBOLISED FOR 6 WEEKS
POSTURE

CORRECT POSTURE IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO ACHIEVE
FOLLOWING YOUR SURGERY. IT ALLOWS THE SHOULDER TO MOVE IN THE WAY IT
WAS SUPPOSED TO DO WITHOUT PLACING STRESSES AND STRAINS ON THE JP\OINT
AND MUSCLE
 THE SCAPULA OR SHOULDER BLADE SHOULD BE MOVED BACK AND DOWN.
THIS IS THE NORMAL AND NEUTRAL POSITION FOR THEM AND SHOULD BE
MAINTAINED DURNG ALL EXERCISES. ACHIEVING SCAPULA NEUTRAL
SHOULD BE DONE REGULARLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND CAN BE DONE WITH
ARM STILL IN SLING

0-2 WEEKS POST-OP

ELBOW FLEXION/EXTENSION, WRIST AND FOREARM EXERCISES, CERVICAL
STRETCHES, ROM EXERCISES TO CERVICAL SPINE
 POSTURAL EDUCATION AND EXERCISES, PHYSIOTHERAPY
 SLEEPING SEMI RECLINED IS MORE COMFORTABLE
 PAIN CONTROL i.e CRYOTHERAPY, ELECTRICAL STIMULATION TO SCAPULAR
MUSCLES
 BEGIN ISOMETRICS IN ALL PALNES AS TOLERATED SCAPULAR MOBILISATION
 GENERAL CONDITIONING AS TOLERATED (INCLUDING TRUNK FLEXION AND
EXTENSION EXERCISES)

2-6 WEEKS

 ARM SLING CAN BE REMOVED
 RESTING PAIN SHOULD BE NOTABLY DIM CONCENTRATE ON NORMAL ARM
SWING MOVEMENT WHILE WALKING
 START WITH PASSIVE AND AAROM EXERCISES (CANE EXERCISES, WALL
WALKING, TABLE SLIDE) IN FLEXION OUT TO ABDUCTION AS TOLERATED
 MAXIMAL ISOMETRICS
 ACTIVE EXERCISES FROM FLEXION INTO THE SCAPULAR PLANE AGAINST
GRAVITY AS TOLERATED
 NO RESISTENCE UNTIL ABLE TO PERFORM 30 REPS AT LIMB WITH PERFECT
MECHANICS
 OKAY TO ADD LIGHT RESISTENCE INTERNAL ROTATION EXERCISES FROM 0
DEGREE TO BODY ONLY
 PENDULAR EXERCISES CAN BE STARTED

8-12 WEEKS

 CONTINUE TO INCREASE AROM EXERCISES AS TOLERATED
 INCREASE PROPRIOCEPTIVE TRAINING (PRONE ON ELBOW, QUADRIPED
POSITION)
 OAKY TO BEGIN JOGGING, ROAD CYCLING AND STANDING ARM RESISTENCE
EXERCISES IN THE POOL

AFTER 3 MONTHS

 EMPHASIS ON REGAINING STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE
 AROM EXERCISES TO IMPROVE INTERNAL ROTATION AND EXTERNAL
ROTATION AS MOTIONALLOWS, DECLINE BENCH PRESS, MILITARY PRESS IN
FRONT OF BODY
 STRENGTHENING EXERCISES WITH DUMBELLS CAN BE STARTED (START
WITH LOW RESISTENCE AND HIGH REPETITION)
 RUNNING ROAD OR MOUNTAIN BIKING, NO ACTIVITIES WITH FORCEFUL,
BALLISTIC ARM MOVEMENT

3-6 MONTHS

 AGGRESSIVE STRETCHING. BEGIN STRENUOUS RESISTIVE EXERCISES
 ADD LIGHT THROWING EXERCISES WITH ATTENTION TO PROPER MECHANICS
6 MONTHS
 INCREASING THROWING PROGRAM WITH FOCUS ON RETURN TO THROWING
SPORTS AS MECHANICS, CONDITIONING AND STRENGTH ALLOW
